6.27.07 Theater survey

1) What was the first play you ever did? What role/job?
The Boyfriend – I was the tango dancer with my sister, in a bikini and fruit on my head. It was actually really cool. I was in the 6th grade, going into 7th

2) What was your most recent show? What job/role?
AIDA – November of 2005, I was a featured dancer – At least 7 costume changes in the first act!

3) What was your most fun show/role?
Tons! Mrs. Potiphar in Joseph at Surflight, AIDA just cause it was amazing, Jesus Christ Superstar, Man of La Mancha was amazing too – great director, amazing cast, fun role (Moorish Dancer)

4) What was your most challenging show/role?
For some reason, Francesca in West Side Story at Surflight. I don’t know why, but I was just stressed at all the dance rehearsals, but I ended up loving it! We had a fierce choreographer, so I really had to dance my ass off and I feel like she expected a lot out of me, and I was always fearful that I wasn’t meeting her expectations. But it was good for me!!

5) What is the most bizarre show or role you've ever done?
In one production of Joseph I was a Mrs. Potiphar and then a cow in the dream sequence. I was also once a pointe dancing carousel horse in Carousel at Surflight. I was a giraffe in Children of Eden!

6) Has anyone ever written a show for you?
Nope – but I was Jodie Sweetin aka Stephanie Tanner in an original musical…I hope I wasn’t a spitting image of Jodie and her wild ways!

7) Have you ever gotten romantically involved with a co-star?
Sorta? But I had hooked up with them before the shows…and of course I’ve hooked up with guys in my casts, but “romantically involved” doesn’t really describe it. Also, after a summer of Surflight, the music director later on became my boyfriend. In Grease! I met Dan S. and we have been close for years!

8) Have you ever quit a show to accept a better one?
No – but I once was cast in a show and couldn’t do it cause I did Paper Mill’s Rising Star Conservatory instead. Does that count? And then I made Paper Mill again a second summer and couldn’t accept cause I got in Surflight.

9) Have you ever completely blown character on stage?
Not that I know of!

10) What show are you just dying to do?
Will Roger’s Follies, Crazy For You, Cabaret, Chicago

11) Have you ever done one of your "dream" shows?
I always wanted to be Mrs. Potiphar in Joseph and now I’ve done that twice, I’ve always wanted to be the Pantomime Pointe Princess in Once Upon a Mattress and I’ve done that…Hedy in How to Succeed I’d like to do

12) Who was your favorite director?
There are a bunch! I’ve been lucky to work with some very awesome and talented directors: Gary John La Rose, Norman Kauahi, Scott Schwartz

13) Who was your least favorite director?
Never had a bad director!

14) What is the most surprising role you have ever been offered?
Surflight – Mrs. D’Amico in Titanic and Mrs. Potiphar in Joseph just cause I was young! 16!

15) Have you ever injured yourself onstage?
Yes…haha! Well, sorta. In the final dress before opening of Titanic, Sean lead my tour jete into a foot light on the stage, shattering it to a million pieces. I also leaned on a curling iron backstage before going onstage for Titanic. In Joseph at Surflight, I pulled my back badly onstage doing a layout (it might have been in rehearsal? And it still hurts to this day) In La Mancha rehearsals, I had an allergic reaction to the paint on the set and my hands blew up and swelled

16) Have you ever worked on an original play?
Original musical, yes

17) What show(s) have you done multiple times?
Joseph, West Side Story. West Side both times were at Surflight.

18) Have you ever done different adaptations of the same show?
Yes, my second West Side had a ton of children in it and a “white scene”

19) What roles do you usually get?
Featured dancer

20) Have you ever had an onstage kiss?
Mrs. Potiphar at Surflight to Jimmy, and in La Mancha I had to make out with a fellow prisoner! (David Torsiello!)

21) What was your scariest moment in a show?
None really

22) What is your best show memory?
A ton! The closeness of the AIDA cast, the fact that four of us from La Mancha went on to Surflight together, doing Mattress with James and James and Karen, all of Surflight! (Kendra, Cynthia, TJ, Zeyn! Sean! Alyson, Julie, Adam, Gabby)

23) What is your worst show memory?
I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad show memory.

24) Have you ever pulled a prank on someone in a show?
No – but I was once backstage during a production of Fiddler and in the wedding scene, a black bra was pulled out (dress rehearsal) and my friend Dan S. that I mentioned above was doing the drops, and set a drop down with my friend’s bra attached to the sandbag – which then went 35 feet into the fly space…so she went on stage braless

25) Have you ever been the recipient of a prank during a show?
Nope.

26) Do you have any theatrical superstitions?
Nope. I just say merde before I go onstage.

27) Ever had a show open or close too early in its run?
I wish AIDA and Jesus Christ Superstar went for longer. And I loved Titanic. I could still be doing Titanic today and be happy!
