2.2.10 - My Love, Tuffy

My little man Tuffy is the only thing on my mind today. The vet feels there is a good chance he will survive the surgery, but I'm still just worried about the little guy. The tumor is so large. He really can't go on the way he is now with the huge growth attached. We waited for years before even considering surgery because we didn't want him to have to go through surgery (or not make it through surgery) while he still had good years left.

Now, he will have to be put down at some point in the near future. His xrays show there is no reason that the surgery shouldn't be performed. At least now, we are giving him a chance. If he doesn't make it through, I will be so sad, but at least we were trying for him. He was also pretty feisty this morning - he's not ready to give up - which also makes me feel as if he has a better chance of surviving.

His baby book that I am working on said that I should write him a letter and read it to him. I wrote it last night and read it to him this morning. I wouldn't have been able to be ok with myself if I didn't write the letter and didn't read it to him and then something happened to him. I thought my letter was kinda cheesy, but it was something I really wanted to do. My mom told me that he wasn't going to judge me on the quality of my letter, haha.

I don't have many friends on here (let me reword that - I don't mean at all that I don't consider friends - I mean the actual number of friends, and the amount of people who would be annoyed by what I'm about to say) and I don't think those of my friends on here would mind if your friends page is filled with pictures of Tuffy. I use my journal often to just look back on what happened on each day and I really hate picture cuts. Today I just want to look at Tuffy, and I hope you all don't mind. :) He's so cute, I hope you all like looking at him too.

Thanks for all the comments and good thoughts and prayers being sent our way. I gave him extra hugs this morning before leaving for work and he even kissed me/licked my face (He's a funny dog - he isn't always cuddly and kissy)

In this picture, you can see the tumor really well. I honestly didn't think he was going to live more than a few days past Christmas. He wasn't walking well, he was sad. The chiropractic treatments worked wonders, and he perked right back up after and has been feisty and perky ever since. I cried a lot on Christmas cause I knew the end was near. Now, it's February 2nd!

This past summer - Tuffy and I hanging out by the pool. His tumor was just starting to get super large, and I covered it with my hand for the picture.

A year ago - February 2009. Still knocking over garbage cans and causing mischief at 13 and 3+ months! I'm telling you, this dog is feisty!

LBI on the lifeguard stand, summer of 2008. Tumor isn't really visible. I don't remember how large it was at this point, but obviously not too big.

Father's Day 2008. Again, you can see the beginnings of the growth. There was no way we were going to operate at that point! His quality of life was so good! (Obviously, since he has almost made it to 2 years beyond the point of this picture) So, it might have been "easier" or "better" to remove it around the time of this picture, but I didn't want to risk his life.

Easter 2007. The tumor is barely visible at this point, but still there. Seriously, this thing has been there for years. He really needs it gone.

My 22nd birthday, September 12, 2005. This is one of my favorite pictures ever.

Summer of 2004 - well, early September 2004 - in the LBI backyard. Molly and Tuffy.

4th of July, 2004. Watching the fireworks over the bay in LBI. I always brought him down to the bay with me to watch them. He didn't bark or freak out like other dogs and actually enjoyed the show.

Good Luck, Tuffy!

I think he'll do just fine, I have a feeling he has some more gusto left in him. :)

My fave pic is the "bathtime" one with Molly & Tuffy watching the new pup, and the "beach" photo shoot.

Love the pics....Tuffy does so well in pictures, its like he's saying...."Ah the camera, let me pose for you all." lol. He'll do fine today for his surgery, he looks like he still has some years left in him. Give us all an update for when he gets out of surgery, I wanna see how he's doing. I'll keep him in my prayers today. :-) He'll be okay though. Those pictures are classic.

PS. Is Rory your sister's dog? I know Molly is. Is it just Turbo and Tuffy in your house now?

My thoughts are with you and Tuffy. I hope all goes well. It looks like he has had a wonderful life and loved by everyone especially you.
The photos are so gorgeous, especially when he is dressed as a fire engine.

I never, ever mind lots of pictures of animals - especially adorable ones! I loved looking through the pics of Tuffy. I remember you posting about when he raided the trash...what a stinker! :) I've seen lots of photos of him over the years, but I don't think I had ever noticed how beautiful his coat is!

I think I've told you before, but because you have shared your love for your Bostons, and the pictures and stories, I've really grown to love them, too!

I saw from Facebook that Tuffy is doing well, and I'm so glad to hear it. I understand how upsetting it is when pets' lives are in someone else's hands.

Oh...and his smile in the Father's Day pool picture is sooooooooo cute!!

Obviously I am late reading this and Tuffy has made it through his surgery with flying colors- the best possible outcome so I am so pleased for you both! But even if he hadn't, through your post (this one and others in years past) it is evident that Tuffy is one loved on dog and has had just about the best life any dog could aspire to.

I'm sorry to hear that Tuffy is sick.. I like the picture of him with the sunflowers...

I'm praying for you two.
