Well, I'm basically just counting down the hours until I take my Financial Accounting final. I'm going to be SO happy when I am finished with that this evening!! It is August 2nd, and I have almost achieved my two major goals for the summer: I have finished my FIT internship hours and after tonight, I will have finished my last class for my MSU Arts Management degree. For the last two weeks of summer, I want to relax, along with find/do some research on topics for my thesis - MSU first, then start looking into my FIT thesis.

Ok. I'm a little bit like a crazed bride, but I'm very excited about this. Stephanie has agreed to make a cake for my birthday party (with unspecified date as of yet) and I put together a graphic of ideas to show her. -It won't be 3 layers, 2 at most, with the 2nd tiny. -I don't want any of that twisty stuff, I just want a bottom layer and possibly a straight, top smaller layer. -This is to give fondant decorating ideas, I like the harlequin triangles, little flowers and polka dots. I don't have crazy expectations for some of those masterpieces, but I know she has the ability to take elements from these ideas and make a fairly rocking cake!! (I'm so excited)

Dave and I were discussing my little gathering as well. He will let me borrow a few tables and chairs to set up since we don't have any. The games are croquet, a wheel of chance (bet on the probability that a color will come up), white trash horse shoes, and another shuffleboard type game. I will use floral table cloths on the tables. Flower pots will be set up with something in them, not sure what yet. I want to also get some decorations - bird nests, butterflies, flowers - I dunno, and scatter them throughout the tables. My idea is to have the games in Alyson's backyard (if she lets me use it) and the rest in mine. I want to put white lites on the tree in my backyard, and paper lanterns along the fence. I will get some balloons, but I won't go crazy. I'm still a little iffy on the menu, but that will be solidified in time. Tomorrow, I am going invitation hunting. The ones I am in LOVE with are these from Vistaprint:

But, I know from special events from the restaurant that their inviations take at least 3 weeks to come in. I'm looking at September 9th or 15th, and that won't give enough time to get them, and send them out. Also, this entire party is relying on my great aunt, who every year takes my family out to a restaurant for my birthday. This year, I rather have a party instead of going out to eat - and I just need her approval before I can actually run with my ideas! (The croquet set is hers as well - I'm assuming a lot here, hahaha)

So yeh. This consumes me. I'm excited.

Edit: Yey!!! She says she'll do it!!!

starlit455 (12:35:17 PM): no twisty
starlit455 (12:35:23 PM): 2 layers, small on top
starlit455 (12:35:34 PM): but just colors and polka dot ideas....you can do that right? lol
Steph (12:35:41 PM): sure lol whatever u want
starlit455 (12:35:46 PM): yeyi love you.
starlit455 (12:35:47 PM): lol
starlit455 (12:35:50 PM): you are my hero
Steph (12:35:53 PM): ok but i have to go now i will talk to you later

Dang, girl! You're going all out! It's gonna be an awesome time, I'm sure.

Just curious as to what the difference is between horse shoes and "White trash horse shoes" haha!

White trash horse shoes is two wooden boxes, with a piece of upright PVC piping in the middle. You then chuck metal washers - metal round disks with a hole in the middle - and try to get it into the PVC pipe in the wood box.

Did that make sense?

ahhh I think I get it. OK that really is white trash - I thought you were just making fun of the normal game of horse shoes. :)

Those cakes are so cool. Have you thought about party favors? My friend Nat makes handmade chocolates and they are very, very cute. Check it out, www.newyorkchocolates.com

we're still debating favors. Dave says favors are for 6 year old birthday parties and weddings. I want to do SOMETHING, but I don't know what. I might do a pinata and the candy in that could count as the favor. A packet of seeds crossed my mind, as did a goldfish, beta fish, (I don't know if that is far to the fish!) a small candle, or soap in a fun summery shape. I will check out your friend's site though!! I just don't know if I'm going to go THAT into favors...hahaha..

We also have a wheel, sort of like a mini wheel of fortune, where you can place bets what color will come up (my father made it for a casino party I had in the 6th grade - which by the way, was a kick ass party) and I was thinking to sort of use candy and favors as things to bet with - but I'm not sure how that would work, really. At the casino party, we earned chips at all the games, and then at the end there was an auction where you bid on the items you wanted based on the amount of chips you had.

I don't know what I'm going to do...decisions, decisions!!!
