As you may know, I write about web/graphic design and am trying to build up my business even more to full-time status to provide employment for me after graduation. However, today Dara commissioned me to do something very cool for her - an Etsy store banner.

It was so much fun to make - I drew the gnome and yarn in Illustrator and then created the rest of the banner in Photoshop and I hope it opens even more job opportunities cause banners like this are just exciting to make!

So, thank you Dara for giving me the opportunity and I hope you like it!

I left work early today cause I had to finish my mid-term. I went home and wrote and had it finished by the early afternoon. I then worked on Dara's banner and it was 4:45 and Dave surprised me by stopping over after he got out of work. I had talked to him during the day explaining that I was stressed and seeing him would make me smile, so it was definitely a pleasant surprise.

I ate soup and corn bread from Whole Foods for dinner. That was quite tasty. This evening I plan on designing another site for FIT for our graduating exhibition that I really should have finished by this point, but it just hasn't happened that way. I want it finished to show everyone by Thursday.

I got my JCrew bill in the mail today and am going to go pay it off online now. Generally, I am a big fan of writing checks since it makes me feel important, but sometimes I like to save the .41 cents of the stamp.

That also reminds me - I have been trying to save money (isn't everyone?) and I came up with a way of saving some extra cash each month. I try to collect coupons on as many items as I can - especially when they are things that I would normally by anyway. At the bottom of each receipt, it will generally say: "You've saved $4.63 today in coupons"

I keep a running tally on a sheet of paper of all these "saved" dollars, and at the end of the month I add them all together. I then transfer that amount into my savings account from my checking - theoretically, it's money that I would have spent on objects had I not used the coupons. So instead of it going to the stores, it makes its way into my savings. I also stretch it and if I miss a day of school, I factor in the train fare and lunch costs cause on a "normal" day, it's money that I would have spent.

Sometimes it only amounts to about $35 a month, but it's still money that could have been gone!!

Hi! I added you about one or two months ago and I thought I should drop you a comment. Haha it's about time.
And I think coupon clipping is an excellent idea!

I really like the banner you made...it's totally awesome. I also think that your savings idea is rockin' and that I need to get on that too. I automatically have my checking transfer $5 a week to my savings and I do that "keep the change" thing that Bank of America does, but this coupon idea is very smart---you're right, you would be spending that money so you should actually SAVE it if you're "saving" by using coupons...right? You're so smart!

such a cute banner! do you have to leave your MSU web job when you graduate, or can you keep working there too?
