I think Dave had a great birthday.

Yesterday, I baked a cake and 24 cupcakes for his party. I'm not a baking wizard, but I don't suck. I arrived at his house and gave him his presents (a wonderfully soft Pottery Barn faux fur throw to match his new bedspread, a pair of boxers I sewed for him, his favorite Yankee Candle - Midsummer Night's Dream, and a metronome for his guitar). He seemed really happy with his presents, and was especially showing off the boxers to his friends and family. We all ate yummy food his mom had purchased from a local Italian restaurant that does this type of catering and we hung around.

It was nice to see his friends since I hadn't seen them in a while and we all laughed and told stories and all that good stuff.

After the party, Dave and I hung out for a bit, and tried to make plans for today but didn't have anything set in stone.

This morning, I woke up and felt like crap. My throat is on fire. I have been known to get infections in my tonsils like, all the time, and I think one spread so I'm hurting. I'm a trooper though. We both took off to do something together on his birthday and I refused to just sit at home and wallow in sickness. We still had no idea what to do - we discussed the Philly Art Museum, the Camden Aquarium (where I would actually LOVE to have my wedding, if I get married), going to the townhouse for the weekend, but we ultimately decided on the Palisades Park Mall in NY. He had some birthday money and even some gift certificates from Christmas, and we thought we'd make a day out of it.

Oh right - he also celebrated big on his birthday - he bought himself a car and picked it up yesterday morning, so he drove it up to NY and it's really nice!!

At the mall, we wondered around, he picked up the new Rivers Cuomo CD, I bought 2 bras from Victoria's Secret, and we ate a really late lunch at Chevy's where he got a birthday sombrero and flan. He also bought a $5 NY lotto scratch of ticket and won $25. It was the first time he'd ever bought a scratch off ticket and he was pleasantly surprised. That's $20 profit, sweet. We just walked around for hours - it's a big place and we didn't do a ton of shopping really, just looking around, laughing and talking. It was nice. The only iffy part of the day was on the way home - he was tired and asked me if I'd drive - I thought it would be cool to try the new car. I adjusted the mirrors, and we pulled out into the real world (beyond the mall) to go home. We both weren't paying attention on got on um..78? South instead of North, figuring in a quick moment of chatting/decision making that North would take us upstate. Wrong. We quickly realized we were going the wrong way, and were on the Tappen Zee Bridge before we could turn around. But, the North side was completely stopped, all the way through the HUGE LONG bridge. So, we said screw it, we're going to continue along until we hit New York City (at 233rd Street in the Bronx - oh man - honestly, that's the first time I've been "to" the Bronx - except maybe driving to Long Island you pass it too? I don't even know...anyway...) and then we drove along through the city, to the George Washington Bridge and then home. It only took 45 minutes to do all that/pass through the city, and it would have taken 45 minutes without traffic had we gone the correct way. It was just a totally ass backwards way of going home. However, his car was smooth and I really enjoyed driving it!!

Since we had a late lunch, we lounged around once we got home, and then at about 8 pm decided to make bacon, french toast and scrambled eggs for dinner.

So, it was a wonderful two day celebration. He means the world to me, and I'm glad we were able to be together for his 28th!!

My throat is still really hurting. Ugh.

I also got a new freelance web client this morning and Dave also does web design and has two of his own new clients that have appeared in the past 48 hours. He and I also talked about ideas for their sites during the day as well. Tomorrow, I need to get more work done on my diner paper along with some freelance work.

Dave's aunt also made him a cake cause there was some cake confusion - I forgot to flour the bottom of my glass pan, so mine had to be served in the dish. Oops. Mine was chocolate with chips and chocolate icing, the other cake was vanilla with chocolate icicing, so it was good variety. The cupcakes I made were funfetti. Yum!

Chevy's today for birthday lunch! This is after he finished his birthday flan. I had a mouthful - I honestly didn't like it as much as I like my own flan, but he LOVED it, which is all that matters.

Dave with his birthday flan and sombrero. He looks a little special here, but it's funny. The other one I took right before this, his eyes were closed, so it looks as if he's trying hard to keep his eyes open...oh well.

So that was Thursday and Friday in a nutshell! I so deserved a fun time from working so hard and so glad I was able to celebrate with my honey!

Here is a picture from his 27th Birthday party last year. I was going to show some others as well, but I can't seem to find them offhand. Hmph.

His hair was longer last year. I bought him that North Face zip up last year as a birthday gift.

Edit again:

Victoria - of course he made me try on the sombrero too!

Wow, you guys had a BUSY two days!! I'm glad they were fun though, it's nice to spend time with our loved ones and friends when we have the chance. BTW I love that white shirt you have in that first picture! Very pretty.

That picture of Dave in the sombrero is really funny! There was a local (new england) restaurant chain called Margarita's and they used to give out sombrero's just like that especially on Cindo De Mayo. They were HUGE! But of course, we all look silly in them. Now, you can't tell me Dave didn't ask you to try it on too!!?

I just edited the post to add a pic of me too, hahaha.

The white shirt is from Talbot's, of all random places! Thanks :) Also, when I went to buy it, they didn't have it in my size but they had it in the petite section. In a size small. I'm 5'10", so the fact that a petite small fits me at all is very strange. I think the shirt was designed to be a bit looser and baggy, but I liked how it was fitted. The shoulder seams are in the correct place and the bottom edge isn't short, so petite small I got! I just really wanted liked the shirt!

That picture is great! If the sombrero fits.. you've gotta wear it!

Petites small?! No wonder I can never shop in petite small.. I'm only 5 feet (usually XS or XXS). I never can find anything to fit these days... can't wait to start sewing my own clothes!! :P
